Port Ellen 14th Release with 0.7l and 56.6% Vol.
The original bottlings of Port Ellen appear to be getting older as the distance from the closing date increases. This special edition released in 2014 thus includes a Port Ellen aged for 35 years, produced in 1978. The color of the whiskey is already promising: dark gold shows a great influence of wood on the noble distillate. On the nose it presents itself as very complex with a pleasant smoky note, which is accompanied by sweet aromas such as honey, fruit and dark chocolate. The whiskey is nutty on the palate and has a wonderful peat and smoke aroma. The influence of the European oak wood from the cask is clearly noticeable. A nuance of dark chocolate rounds off the taste impression very nicely,
Port Ellen is something of a myth on the Isle of Islay. Because although the distillery was closed in 1983, the products are still very present. And the old distillery still has a significant influence on the whiskey region. Because even if the license to distill in 1992 finally expired and a reopening of the distillery is therefore impossible, the malting is still in operation. This is where the raw material that the other Islay distilleries use – at least in part – for their products is created.
